National Association for Music Education - Preschool National Standards:
1) Singing and playing instruments
2) Creating music
3) Responding to music
4) Understanding music
In music we strive to incorporate these standards into each music class. Students learn about musical opposites - high/low, long/short, fast/slow and loud/soft sounds, as well as how to keep a steady beat through singing and playing instruments. They are often encouraged to demonstrate their understanding of these concepts by responding to the music they hear. For instance, students are often asked to listen to a given music sample and move their bodies in a fast or slow way based on the tempo they hear.
Music at the preschool level allows students to experience these concepts through games, songs and instruments, and to instill in students the joy of music making.
